Memorial Day 2017: A Message From Ranking Member Tim Walz

WASHINGTON, D.C. --- Today, House Committee on Veterans Affairs Ranking Member Tim Walz (D-MN) released the following statement in observance of Memorial Day 2017:

“In the 241 years since our nation’s founding, countless American heroes have raised their right hand and sworn an oath to support and defend our Constitution as well as a set of principals Americans regard to be self-evident: that all people are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.”

“Whether they fought for liberty and freedom in the battlefields of the Revolutionary War, the trenches of Western Europe, the snow covered-mountains of the Chosin Reservoir, or the desert sands of Baghdad, time and again American servicemembers have demonstrated true sacrifice, patriotism, selflessness, and bravery in the face of evil.”

“Today, let us all take a moment to honor every American who has made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of this great nation and our guiding principles. We owe our deepest gratitude and respect to these brave men and women and it is our sacred duty to ensure they will never be forgotten.”
